My name is Ben Vanway, I started Bean Internet Radio...you're welcome.
As long as I can remember, I loved music. It became an integral part of my life quickly, and as I get older, my passion burns stronger. That's why I started Bean Internet Radio. Why "Bean Internet Radio?" Well, it's a nickname. Long story and actually not very interesting, but it stuck.
My mission is to create the fastest growing, Internet based radio station that appeals to the broadest group of music lovers. People who grew up in the 70's and 80's, with a dash of the 90's and today. So, maybe the best way to understand what makes us unique would be to get some answers...
What made you start Bean Internet Radio? I started Bean Internet Radio because I wanted to be a DJ at a FM radio station at first. I figured if I started Bean Internet Radio and things went well maybe a station would consider me for a internship. Mostly because I love radio and feel that people want to hear the music they love. Not a bunch of station ID’s and DJ’s talking all the time. If DJ’s are there they really need to be fun and upbeat, and involve the listener and make it about the listener and not the DJ.
If you could pick your favorite band who would it be? This is a hard question to answer because I have several of them. I don’t feel anyone has just one favorite band. If I had to chose one I think it would be “The Pointer Sisters”. I wish more groups could sing like them. They sound great and the songs are just awesome!
What is your favorite song? “We’ve Got The Power” by The Pointer Sisters because if you have a goal and want it bad enough and are willing to climb that mountain called life to get to it anything is possible. It’s totally up to you to quote from a Rocky movie “You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody!” I feel it’s a great quote to live by.
What are your goals for Bean Internet Radio? I think my goals would to help people who either get out of school and have no experience or the person really wants to get into the business but has no degree and has the drive and wants to learn to give them a job and create a work environment that is fun and everyone feels important and you don’t have to be so serious at work. I feel when you do something they love and people feel important it carries over to the product. I also want to make enough one day to pay for my employees health plans and take that worry off them.
If someone were to tell you they would give you unlimited funding what improvements would you make? If I had unlimited funding I would go national with this project and hire the amazing talented, fun Famous Amous! to be a DJ and have a ton of stuff to give away to listeners. I would also buy a few FM stations or get my own app for cell phones and roku.
